Oldham care home uses cutting edge technology to improve contact with families

Relatives of residents at Treelands care home in Oldham can now view on-demand details about how their loved ones have spent their day.

The care home, part of the Handsale Group, is using the very latest Mobile Care Monitoring system to improve the efficiency and communication across the home and to ensure the very best care for its residents.

A new feature of Person Centred Software’s technology is the ability for families to view details of the care provided to relatives through its Relatives Gateway portal.

This offers reassurance to family members who cannot visit as regularly as they would like.

The Relatives Gateway also includes a social network for sending photos and messages.

Mr Rishi Sodha, Care Director of Handsale Care Homes, said: “Having a loved one in 24-hour care is an anxious time for families.

"The Relatives Gateway helps put people’s minds at rest around the care their relative receives, especially if the family do not live close.”

Every member of staff at the care homes use a handheld device throughout their shift to evidence care in real-time, ensuring the quality of information is both accurate and detailed and most importantly, freeing up time to do the actual caring.

The information can then be accessed securely by approved relatives.

Rishi added: “The big benefit of Mobile Care Monitoring is the time saved from doing paperwork, so more time can be spent with residents.

"Our nurses save up to 4 hours a day and the care staff between 45 minutes to an hour.”

Managers also save time on care plan reviews and safeguarding, with dashboards that deliver all the information they need to their fingertips.
