In April 2017, Abbeyfield Bradbury House implemented digital care planning system, Mobile Care Monitoring. The digital system replaces handwritten notes, and enable staff to record care notes, reports and charts, and care plans electronically.

Andrew Cantelo, deputy manager at Abbeyfield Bradbury House, explains that Bradbury House wanted to improve their quality of care and for their care records to reflect their quality of care.

“All expected benefits have been met since implementing and utilising Mobile Care Monitoring,”

The aim of the transition to digital care planning was to utilise technology to increase the quantity and quality of detailed information recorded about residents, whilst freeing up staff time on documentation.

“All expected benefits have been met since implementing and utilising Mobile Care Monitoring,” says Andrew Cantelo.

“Care records are now accurate and up-to-date; the quantity and quality of care records has improved dramatically. Care staff and managers have live information at their fingertips and they are confident and equipped with information to make decisions to improve quality of care.”

Bradbury House is a residential care home for up to 41 people in Beaconsfield. The home is part of the Abbeyfield Society, a national charity caring for the elderly. People are cared for by a team of care staff, with 10 well-trained staff delivering care on the largest shift.

Improved communication due to digital care planning

Andrew continues, “Communication among the home has also improved. For instance, if a relative calls Bradbury House to find out what’s been going on with their family member, the manager can quickly see all the recent information and doesn’t need to find a member of care staff to relay an update like they used to have to”.

“Professionals access to information instantly has not just improved communication, but improved quality of care for residents as services have been able to provide joined-up care.”

Andrew says, “Professionals access to information instantly has not just improved communication, but improved quality of care for residents as services have been able to provide joined-up care.”

Two GP surgeries and one private physiotherapist are accessing the residents’ records directly through the creation of ‘communities’ to represent the medical services. The professionals access the system with a unique user login and password. They can see key information and observations about residents.

Analysis ensures fee band adjusted according to care received

Mobile Care Monitoring is an evidence-based digital care system. Using the analysis provided by hard evidence – the accurate, real-time care recording, Bradbury House are able to ensure that residents’ fee band is adjusted according to the care they receive and, in some cases, acquire increased funding for their care.
