When we actively create and nurture meaningful relationships with others, we are better equipped to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation. This, in turn, can positively impact our mental health by reducing stress and anxiety. This is primarily attributed to various life changes, including adult children or grandchildren, leaving the family home, the loss of friends, becoming widowed, retiring, or the development of chronic health conditions that may limit their ability to socialise outside the home. These changes can lead to a restructuring of one's social support system, potentially leaving older adults feeling more isolated and lonely. Based on data from [AIHW](https://www.aihw.gov.au/mental-health/topic-areas/social-isolation-and-loneliness), in 2022, it was estimated that around 16% of older Australians aged over 65 experience feelings of loneliness, while approximately 11% are considered socially isolated. This highlights a significant challenge in ensuring the wellbeing of the older population.
