Care Home Gets Connected
DETAILS of patient care at a Paisley care home will now be available for relatives and loved ones to view on demand.
Handsale Care Homes, which runs Westerfield Care Home in Castlehead, has adopted the very latest Mobile Care Monitoring system to improve the efficiency and communication in the home.
A new element of Person Centred Software’s technology is the ability for relatives to view details of the care provided to patients through its Relatives Gateway portal. This offers reassurance to family members who cannot visit as regularly as they would like. The Relatives Gateway also includes a social network for sending photos and messages.
Rishi Sodha, care director of Handsale Care Homes, said: “The Relatives Gateway helps put people’s minds at rest around the care their loved one receives, especially if the family do not live close.”
Every member of staff now uses a handheld device throughout their shift to evidence care in realtime, ensuring the quality of information is both accurate and detailed and most importantly, freeing up time to do the actual caring.
Mrs Sodha continued: “The big benefit is the time saved from doing paperwork, so more time can be spent with residents. Our nurses save up to four hours a day and the care staff between 45 minutes to an hour.”
Managers will now also save time on care plan reviews and safeguarding. “When one care home went fully paperless a nurse pulled me aside and told me that it felt like the first full day of nursing she’d done in 10 years,” Mrs Sodha added.
