In 2013, Kestrel Grove Nursing Home became one of the first care homes to use paperless digital care plans. The nursing home, based in Hertfordshire, was an early-adopter of innovative new technology.

Person Centred Software created its paperless digital care plans system called Mobile Care Monitoring to remove the burden of paperwork. By saving time on paperwork, carers have more time to spend with residents. On average, Mobile Care Monitoring saves carers three days a month on administration and paperwork.

Paperless digital care plans are he way forward

Monika Gilice, the registered manager, saw that a person-centred, easy-to-use system was the way forward in care. She says, “Mobile Care Monitoring provides our nurses with more detailed, more person-centred, quicker and easier reports. It reduces paperwork time and costs too.”

“Recently when a carer performed an enema, I didn’t have to go and check if it was a good result afterwards as I could immediately see on the digital care plans.”

Carers and nurses record daily notes in real-time on an app. They received on-site training from Person Centred Software to use the handheld device. Now, nurses no longer have to write daily care plans since the data auto-populates as digital care plans.

A nurse explains, “Recently when a carer performed an enema, I didn’t have to go and check if it was a good result afterwards as I could immediately see on the digital care plans.”

Staff spend more time with residents

By reducing time spent on documentation, carers and nurses say that they can spend more time with residents, which is who Monika says matters most.

“It is much quicker finding evidence on Mobile Care Monitoring, than on paper. This makes the digital care plans fantastic for CQC inspections.”

Monika says, “Mobile Care Monitoring is a great product and it is the way forward for care managers. It has manifold benefits for care managers. They know when care is being delivered and by whom; it brings peace of mind as they know care is evidenced quickly and efficiently at point of delivery.

“Reports are also detailed and quick to run. It is much quicker finding evidence on Mobile Care Monitoring, than on paper. This makes the digital care plans fantastic for CQC inspections.”
