Meeting the new digital social care deadline

Minister extends deadline for digital social care records (DSCRs)

In March 2022, the former Health Secretary set a target of 80% of social care providers having digital social care records (DSCRs) by March 2024. However, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) minister recently acknowledged that they had fallen behind their original target on the rollout of DSCRs across England.

When is the deadline?

Helen Whateley, the DHSC minister, revealed that as of February 2024, only 63% of social care providers registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) had implemented DSCRs - this suggests that the target of reaching 80% by March 2024, part of the Government's adult social care reform white paper, was not met.

In response to a parliamentary question from Labour MP Andrew Gwynne, Whateley announced that a new deadline of March 2025 had been set for the 80% target. She also stated that an additional £25 million had been allocated for this financial year to support the implementation of DSCRs.
