Don’t miss our latest training courses for Scottish care homes – Adult Support & Protection and Fire Safety

Discover more about the lates training courses that cover core training subjects for Scottish care homes

In Scotland, there are 12 core training subjects that cover a range of topics such as communication, dignity, equity, health and safety awareness and many more. To ensure that you are complying with these subjects if you are in Scotland, we are releasing training courses that cover each of these topics. 

Firstly, we’re bringing you two new subjects, now available through our Mandatory and Compliance Training platform, which are entitled Adult Support and Protection, and Fire Safety. 

Let’s take a closer look at these courses below so you can see how they will benefit your staff and improve the level of care they can provide. 

 

Adult Support and Protection Scotland 

It is important for social care staff to safeguard the interests of those who are least able to protect themselves and who are most vulnerable and at risk of harm. This course provides the knowledge and skills you need to understand the full extent of your responsibilities in support and protection, and how those responsibilities fit into the wider context of support and protection. 

Course content includes, among many others, areas such as the legislation of adult support and protection that is specific to Scotland, as well as an exploration of what your responsibilities are, why some might be at risk, the types of harm and recognising the symptoms of harm and how to reduce its likelihood.  

Learning outcomes

This course is designed to enable you to gain skills, knowledge and experience in the following areas: 

  • Recognise factors causing vulnerability 
  • Identify types of harm and recognise when harm may be occurring 
  • Identify ways to reduce the likelihood of harm occurring 
  • Identify when and how to provide support and protection 
  • Recognise and report unsafe practices

Fire Safety Scotland 

This course on fire safety includes relevant fire legislation for care homes in Scotland that might differ from that currently used in England and Wales. Not only will it reinforce the responsibilities of all staff when it comes to fire safety and protocols, but it will also provide knowledge and understanding on how to identify common fire safety hazards and how to take the relevant precautions and actions according to their role in the care home. 

Course content for Fire Safety Scotland includes the importance of fire safety, it covers relevant legislation in detail, how to use emergency equipment and much more. 

Learning outcomes

This course is designed to enable you to gain skills, knowledge and experience in the following areas: 

  • Recognise the importance of fire safety 
  • Understand how fires can be prevented 
  • Identify the types of emergency equipment and its uses 
  • Understand the need for formal and informal risk assessments 
  • Recognise their role in fire safety
