We are thrilled to announce that DepenSys, a leading dependency and capability tool for care homes, has joined our family of products!

With this acquisition, over 6,000 care homes can now provide better care by assessing residents' needs, determining the time and skills required to meet those needs, and comparing the suggested staffing levels with the actual level, enabling care homes to quickly calculate within a minute, staffing requirements based on residents' needs.

We're delighted to be able to provide assistance to care homes in addressing a highly prevalent problem that significantly affects their CQC assessments and the overall quality of care.

What is DepenSys?

DepenSys is an innovative web-based dependency system backed by more than 35 years of research that enables care providers to quickly and accurately identify the specific needs of each resident, convert these needs into the necessary time and skills required to meet them, and then compare the suggested staffing levels with the actual levels.

Helping to ensure residents receive the care and support they need while allowing care providers to optimise their staffing levels and resources, the system also demonstrates how the service is staffed in compliance with the Care Quality Commission in England, the Care Inspectorate in Scotland, the Care Inspectorate Wales, and other regulatory bodies requirements.

About DepenSys

DepenSys is a unique system built by Rob Fawcett, who has 44 years of experience in nursing, regulatory, QA and consulting. He was also supported by Angie Fawcett, who has 42 years of experience in nursing, care home management, QA, and consulting.

The idea of DepenSys came from work Rob started in 1985 as part of his master's thesis studying the relationship between individual care needs and the staffing and skill mix required to meet those needs to a high quality. After years of refining and developing the product based on the latest technological breakthroughs and the evolving needs of care home residents, DepenSys was created.

Benefits of care providers using DepenSys

  • Provides a quick and easy way of summarising each resident's needs, with a clear breakdown of the hours and skill mix required.
  • Enables comparisons of dependency and staffing among care homes with multi-home groups and units within homes.
  • Offers a demonstration of how the home is staffed in compliance with the Care Quality Commission in England, the Care Inspectorate in Scotland, the Care Inspectorate Wales, and other regulatory bodies requirements.
  • Assists in demonstrating compliance with consumer legislation following the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) 2019 report on care home fees.
  • Constantly evolving and updated to reflect the increasing needs of residents and the expectations of care homes.
  • System evolution is based on continuing research, peer review, and sector feedback.
  • Based on more than 35 years of research and development.

As a result of bringing DepenSys into Person Centred Software's family of products, care providers can now predict staffing requirements in just one minute based on residents' needs and ease reporting needed for care quality assessments.

DepenSys will continue to work with all existing customers and partners.

Johan Jardevall, CEO at Person Centred Software, says:

"The addition of DepenSys to our Connected Care platform will enable care homes to give the right care to their residents based on their needs, predict their staffing needs accurately and provide inspectors with the best possible documentation for assessing staffing needs. We're very excited about being able to further deliver on our mission of enabling the best possible care to all our customers."

Rob Fawcett, founder of DepenSys, says:

"After growing DepenSys to nearly 500 homes, we recognised that we needed to form a strong partnership to extend our reach into more care home businesses nationally and globally. Person Centred Software stepped in to support our vision for the product, and we are confident that their acquisition sends a great signal to the industry that through integration into the Person Centred Software family, our dependency and staffing tool remains a market-leading solution."
